What drew you to Mayo Clinic for residency training? When I visited Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville on my interview day, I was impressed by the current residents, the state-of-the-art facilities, and the faculty’s eagerness to teach. The abundance of resources and the emphasis on innovation definitely stood out to me.

What do you like about Jacksonville? Jacksonville is a beautiful city to live in and I am lucky to call it home during residency. My husband and I love visiting Neptune Beach, trying new restaurants, and checking out the Riverside Arts Market on the weekends. There are plenty of trails and springs to kayak in nearby. It’s also just a short drive away from Savannah, Orlando, Amelia Island, and St. Augustine.

What makes this program unique? The mentorship model at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is what truly sets this program apart. We are guided by passionate faculty members who are deeply invested in our success. As part of a newer residency program, we also have the exciting opportunity to help shape the future of our training experience.

Fun facts: I enjoy surfing, skiing, pickleball, and Pilates. My fiancé and I are currently in the process of buying a home and planning our wedding here in Jax!

What drew you to Mayo Clinic for residency training? I was drawn to the abundance of resources, new technology, and research productivity at Mayo Clinic. I knew I would achieve a terrific surgical training with exposure to cutting edge instruments, technologies, and techniques.

What do you like about Jacksonville? I love living at the beach, spending my evenings and weekends off surfing or watching sunsets. The weather is nice enough year-round to enjoy outdoor activities!

What makes this program unique? Our program provides an exceptional level of mentorship and surgical skill training starting day one. We have a small residency program within a large and ever-growing department, so we have an abundance of staff and interesting cases to learn from daily. Our staff members are phenomenal surgeons and educators, and our leadership is extremely supportive of our education, training, and well-being.

Fun facts: I love to travel and seek new adventures. I have a particular interest in global surgery and traveled to Zimbabwe to implement some research during my research year.

What drew you to Mayo Clinic for residency training? The legacy of training excellent surgeons who are recognized internationally for exceptional surgical skills, but importantly to me, were the values they uphold.

What do you like about Jacksonville? I love living so close to the beach, I intentionally visit the beach weekly.

What makes this program unique? This is a new program that has hit the ground running with faculty and staff who are excited to teach and opportunities and facilities to promote our experience and success. There are unlimited opportunities for leadership, innovation, research, and surgical experience.

Fun facts: I got my degree in Vocal Performance at Emory before embarking on my medical journey which encouraged a growing interest in the disorders of making and hearing sound. I love my friends and family, and my husband, Nick.

What drew you to Mayo Clinic for residency training? There are quite a few things that drew me to the Mayo Clinic. There is a unique culture of innovation and a reputation for excellence spanning more than a century. It has the best-of-the-best faculty, facilities, and resources in the field. Hands-on surgical training begins as soon as PGY-1 starts. On top of this, the location in Jacksonville is gorgeous and I have family support in the area.

How did you decide on Otolaryngology? After studying vocal performance in college, I spent about a year working as a singer and I was a patient of a laryngologist! There were a lot of steps that went into the decision to go back and apply to medical school, but I knew early on that I was interested in otolaryngology because of my experience with her. My interest grew with more exposure to the field, as I progressed through school.

What surprised you about your program? There is constant growth happening on campus, and I am continuously shocked by the new features being made available to us.
