Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences offers a postgraduate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship with dual tracks at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

Program highlights

This unique dual track fellowship provides a 12-month structured training in either hematology or medical oncology. Our track-focused curriculum provides a comprehensive knowledge base for subspecialized clinical practice and better prepares highly qualified graduate nurse practitioners and physician assistants in developing a rewarding career in hematology or medical oncology in academic medicine.

Each track has a curriculum that contains didactic in-class education, research, and mentored clinical rotations in either hematology or medical oncology. Upon completion of this structured training, you will establish high levels of specific clinical judgment and the best patient care skills in the practice of an autonomous-collaborative and multidisciplinary team approach.

The dual track fellowship aims to provide you with the ability to:

  • Acquire knowledge of pathophysiology, clinical presentation, and disease prognosis of common benign and malignant hematology disorders or common medical oncology disorders for each track
  • Strengthen physical assessment and critical thinking skills to provide high-quality, evidence-based and cost-effective care
  • Establish diagnosis, develop a treatment plan, and evaluate treatment outcomes
  • Integrate a broad knowledge base of disease process and treatment, along with recognition of spiritual and cultural diversity needs, to enhance education to patients and families
  • Develop effective communication and presentation skills

Completion and certification

Upon graduation, you will receive a certificate from Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences documenting successful completion of the 12-month postgraduate Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Hematology/Medical Oncology Fellowship. This certificate verifies that you have completed all of the components outlined in the curriculum and have achieved program competencies.

The experience and training provided during this dual track fellowship prepares you to practice and allows you to be more competitive for hematology or medical oncology positions.
