Program highlights

The program provides the high-quality didactic and clinical experiences needed to create a well-rounded, competent clinical pharmacist. PGY-2 emergency medicine pharmacy residents:

• Develop expertise, knowledge, and skills in an emergency department environment
• Contribute to an interdisciplinary healthcare team by participating in all resuscitation team activations, including trauma, stroke, shock, overdose, acute coronary syndrome, and cardiopulmonary resuscitations in adult and pediatric patient populations
• Recommend patient-specific therapeutic interventions to treat emergent and urgent encounters
• Efficiently and effectively provide accurate, reliable, and evidence-based drug information to the interdisciplinary emergency department team, patients, and caregivers
• Experience unique multidisciplinary educational opportunities including providing presentations and engaging in simulations
• Enhance skills in conducting clinical research and quality improvement
• Strengthen communication skills by presenting formal and informal lectures, writing a professional manuscript, and leading interdisciplinary discussions
• Network with fellow pharmacy residents and practicing clinicians through professional membership and conferences

Program history

The PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at Mayo Clinic Health System — Eau Claire is a newly-developed program accepting our first resident during the 2025-2026 residency year. Our program has been approved for pre-candidate status through ASHP and anticipates being accredited upon graduation of our first resident.
