From the program director

The goal for the PGY-2 Emergency Medicine Pharmacy Residency at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire is to provide our residents with an environment to develop into patient-centered, evidence-based, well-rounded clinicians. Throughout the year you will work to refine your skills in clinical practice, research, and education.

The care provided to patients in the Emergency Department (ED) is truly a multidisciplinary experience. As a pharmacist, you are expected to be at the bedside providing your expertise to the care of the patient. As a result of our expertise, the Emergency Medicine (EM) Pharmacy team has become a highly respected and appreciated part of patients’ care at Mayo Clinic in Eau Claire. Our EM practice has expanded greatly in recent years with EM pharmacists present in the Emergency Department 19 hours a day, seven days a week (and asked frequently about covering the final five hours). We are also excited about adding ECMO care in our critical care unit, which will no doubt present additional opportunities for our EM and critical care teams to contribute to the care of complex patients. This will be in addition to the unique opportunity to be connected to critical access emergency departments that are part of our health system and overcoming challenges faced by smaller hospitals. Truly, you will experience all facets of emergency medicine while continuing your training in Eau Claire, Wisconsin.

In addition to training in clinical practice, you will spend time working on research, quality improvement, and professional development. Utilizing the vast resources we have available at Mayo Clinic; our residency aims to tailor the program experience to meet the goals of each individual resident.

Department of Pharmacy

The Department of Pharmacy at Mayo Clinic Health System — Eau Claire employs over 200 individuals in the Northwest Wisconsin Region, including approximately 60 pharmacists, to provide comprehensive inpatient and outpatient pharmaceutical services.

Dedicated preceptors

As a resident, you have direct access to skilled and dedicated preceptors and mentors to optimize your learning experience. All preceptors meet qualifications outlined by ASHP, and many are certified by the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
