Clinical training

This is a sample of how you typically segment your clinical and research time:

Focus area Weeks
Body MRI 10-14
GI CT 6-8
GI fluoroscopy 2
GU CT 6-8
GU excretory urography (ExU) 1
Ultrasound (US) 4
CT intervention 2-4
Elective* 8

*Elective time is devoted to either additional clinical rotations or a combination of additional clinical rotations and research-related scholarly activity at your discretion in consultation with the fellowship program director and the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship coordinator.

Call frequency

During the program, you take up to 10 weeks of CT intervention, US and body MRI calls, depending on the number of fellows available in the call pools. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Didactic training

You attend all radiology conferences relevant to Abdominal Radiology Fellowship, including monthly abdominal imaging conference and weekly Wednesday afternoon Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary case conferences. You are also encouraged to attend Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary interest group conferences.

Research training

During the program, you engage in research with the expectation of academic productivity.

Teaching opportunities

You supervise residents in the performance of abdominal imaging examinations, prior to review with supervising staff radiologists. To augment this teaching role, you present a minimum of two Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary Imaging conferences for radiology residents.

Evaluation

To ensure that you acquire adequate knowledge and develop the appropriate technical skills to meet program expectations, your performance is monitored carefully during the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship. You are formally evaluated by supervising faculty members on a regular basis and meet with the program director to review these evaluations. In addition, you regularly evaluate the faculty to confirm that your educational needs are being met.
