Clinical training

This is a sample of how you typically segment your clinical and research time:

Focus area Weeks
Body MRI 10-14
GI CT 6-8
GI fluoroscopy 2
GU CT 6-8
GU excretory urography (ExU) 1

*Elective time is devoted to either additional clinical rotations or a combination of additional clinical rotations and research-related scholarly activity at your discretion in consultation with the fellowship program director and the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship coordinator.

Call frequency

During the program, you participate in up to 10 weeks of CT intervention, ultrasound, and body MRI call. Call schedules depend on the number of fellows available. Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science follows the recommendations of the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.

Didactic training

You attend all conferences relevant to the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship. These include monthly abdominal imaging conferences and weekly gastrointestinal/genitourinary case conferences. You are also encouraged to attend Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary interest group conferences.

Research training

During the program, you engage in research with the expectation of academic productivity.

Teaching opportunities

You supervise residents in performing abdominal imaging examinations prior to review with supervising staff radiologists. To augment this teaching role, you present a minimum of two Gastrointestinal/Genitourinary Imaging conferences for radiology residents.

Evaluation

Throughout the Abdominal Radiology Fellowship, your progress is closely monitored. This ensures you gain the knowledge and technical skills needed to succeed. YYou are formally evaluated by supervising faculty on a regular basis. You also meet with the program director to review your evaluations. In addition, you regularly evaluate the faculty to confirm that your educational needs are being met.
