Application Process

One trainee is accepted to this program annually.

Qualifications

Candidates for the esophageal diseases fellowship must have completed post M.D./D.O. training in internal medicine and subspecialty training in gastroenterology. A strong academic record and appropriate recommendations is essential. Ideally, the applicant will be board eligible in gastroenterology before enrolling in the fellowship.

Candidates must have demonstrated an interest in esophageal disease and have been involved in some esophageal research. They must show commitment to initiating an academic career in esophagology. International medical graduates are welcome to apply and must meet established Mayo Clinic criteria for international fellows.

How to apply

Mayo Clinic's academic year begins in July. No matching program services are used for this fellowship. You must submit a completed application form and all required documentation in order to be considered for appointment. Applicants considered for appointment will be invited for a personal interview with the program director and faculty. Interviews are arranged on an individual basis and are offered to candidates deemed most competitive, typically in the fall of the prior calendar year.

  2. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials
  3. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
    • Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section
    • Complete the Recommendation Request section

In addition to the standard application materials required by Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, this program requires:

  • A letter of recommendation from your residency program director. This must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. The recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter.

Interviews are offered on an individual basis to candidates who are deemed most competitive.
