Mayo Clinic anesthesiology residents attending a lecture

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine residency program provides a robust curriculum with broad clinical experiences to empower graduates to become leaders within the field of anesthesiology.

The comprehensive curriculum spreads across three years of clinical anesthesiology in a multi-faceted approach. Clinical training is exceptional at Mayo Clinic with a wide range of complex cases in a variety of surgical fields that require unique anesthetic planning. Mayo Clinic Arizona leads the nation in abdominal transplant surgery, complex airway management and laryngeal transplant, cutting-edge complex neurosurgical procedures, and interventional pain management. Our residents rotate at world-class hospitals with high acuity obstetrical, pediatric, neurosurgical, trauma, and cardiothoracic anesthesia services.

Our consultants routinely provide intraoperative teaching to bring anesthesia concepts to life in the operating room. Didactics include a weekly lecture series across basic, advanced, and subspecialty topics to address ABA-outlined concepts. As a resident, you will participate in Education Days, which are all-day interactive sessions tailored to meet our residents’ educational needs.

You will also have ample research opportunities within our department with a wide variety of research interests amongst faculty, leading our residents to regularly publish in peer-reviewed journals.
