The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine residency provides a robust curriculum and broad, diverse clinical experiences. The program prepares graduates to become leaders in the field of anesthesiology.

Our training provides exposure to complex cases across a wide range of surgical specialties. These experiences require unique anesthetic planning and clinical decision-making. Mayo Clinic in Arizona leads the nation in abdominal transplants and complex head and neck surgeries. The practice also includes high-risk cardiothoracic procedures, advanced neurosurgical procedures, and comprehensive interventional pain management procedures.

Our residents also rotate at world-class hospitals within the city, with high-acuity obstetric, pediatric, and trauma anesthesia services.

Our didactic curriculum includes lectures, simulation sessions, problem-based learning discussions and exam preparation that cover BASIC, ADVANCED, APPLIED and subspecialty ABA topics. 

There are ample research opportunities within our department. Each resident is supported by a dedicated research mentor who will help develop longitudinal research projects to presentation at local and national conferences and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
