Mayo Clinic anesthesiology residents attending a lecture

The Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine residency provides a robust curriculum and broad clinical experiences. The program prepares graduates to become leaders in the field of anesthesiology.

Our training provides exposure to complex cases across a wide range of surgical specialties. These experiences require unique anesthetic planning and clinical decision-making. Mayo Clinic in Arizona leads the nation in abdominal transplants and complex head and neck surgeries. The practice also includes high-risk cardiothoracic procedures, advanced neurosurgical procedures, and comprehensive interventional pain management procedures.

Our residents also rotate at world-class hospitals within the city, with high-acuity obstetric, pediatric, and trauma anesthesia services.

Didactics include lectures and simulation sessions that cover basic, advanced, and subspecialty ABA topics.

There are ample research opportunities within our department, supported by dedicated faculty mentors. Faculty mentors help residents develop projects and publish in peer-reviewed journals.
