Didactic training is an integral part of Mayo Clinic's Anesthesiology Residency. Residents participate in:
- Introductory lecture series
- Core curriculum lectures
- Clinical case conferences
- Education Days
- Journal clubs
- Morbidity and mortality conferences
- Oral board practice exams
- Problem based learning discussions
- Simulation training
- Subspecialty mini-lectures
- Written board reviews
The introductory lecture series takes place in the first clinical anesthesia month of residency. The lecture series provides new CA-1 residents with foundational knowledge in anesthesiology. Following the first month, the core curriculum lectures occur monthly as dedicated education days and consist of reviews of American Board of Anesthesiology Basic and Advanced topics, problem-based learning discussions, oral board reviews, and simulations. Residents are always relieved from clinical duty to participate in didactics.
Our residents and faculty engage in journal club that emphasizes the building knowledge of research methods and statistical analyses to critically appraise various literature.

After a transformative away rotation at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, I knew this was where I wanted to continue my anesthesiology training as a resident physician. The commitment to resident wellness at Mayo Clinic was evident from day one. The collaborative and innovative approach to patient care coupled with a supportive and educational environment made it an easy decision for me. I am excited to further develop my skills and knowledge.
