Meet Our Residents

Mayo Clinic anesthesiologists treating a patient

From the chief resident

Brooks Johnson, M.D.Welcome to the anesthesiology residency at the Mayo Clinic in beautiful Arizona! We are proud of the residency program we are a part of and hope to share the unique aspects of our residency with you!

We enjoy the challenge of training in a high-acuity academic center along with the experience of rotating through a number of high-volume private practice settings. We far surpass the American Board of Anesthesiology minimum case numbers and gain excellent experience in every subspecialty of anesthesia. The first-class training and mentorship we receive in a small residency at Mayo Clinic prepares us well for private practice, academic practice, and fellowship.

Our work-life balance is outstanding, allowing for adequate time to enjoy activities, hobbies, and interests outside of the hospital. We are supported by our residency and department to have regular wellness events, residency parties and an annual trip to the Western Anesthesia Resident’s Conference. We’re a close-knit resident group, and we enjoy our time together both inside and outside of the hospital!

The anesthesiology department is growing rapidly in line with Mayo Clinic's Bold Forward project, including the expansion of the anesthesiology department and residency program. It’s an exciting time to work at Mayo Clinic as the hospital grows. With the diversity of faculty members and breadth of cases, mentorship and guidance are truly tailored to each resident’s needs.

This is an exceptional residency program that truly balances high acuity patient care and robust volume with resident happiness and well-being. We hope you get a sense of our excitement as you explore our website and interview with us! Feel free to contact me with questions or general inquiries.
