From the chief residents
Welcome to the Department of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Medicine at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida! We are so excited that you are interested in learning about our residency program. Thank you for taking the time to get to know us!
Being a smaller program allows our residents to grow together, not only as a class but also as an entire program. Our training also gives us an opportunity to work with a variety of attendings multiple times growing our clinical skills/procedures and knowledge base. One thing that is unique to our program is the fact that we are able to get you into the operating room with CA2's and CA3's during your intern year through the Early Anesthesia Training (EAT) program. This program was created by our own residents three years ago. Having this opportunity does a few things we would like to highlight:
- It gives you a sense of knowing that you are part of the anesthesia department family even though you are with the internal medicine department for the first year.
- You will be introduced to the perioperative and postoperative staff, anesthesiology attendings, surgical nursing staff, anesthesiology technicians, and others.
- You will have the ability to perform intubations, IVs, and arterial lines, and see how the operating room functions from a CA1-3 level.
As a trainee in the Anesthesiology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, you will have multiple opportunities for research where you will be given various projects based on your clinical or research interests. Through this process, mentorship is often established which greatly benefits residents who are wanting to start molding their future career ambitions. We also have something called "Academic Wednesdays" which ultimately allow you to focus on research as well as studying before afternoon lectures, simulation labs, or journal clubs.
Our very advanced simulation lab allows us to cover multiple anesthesia-related topics in real-time during our simulation time which makes us well-prepped and prepared for when the real emergency comes!
Thank you once again for your interest in Mayo Clinic - a place we are proud to call our home! We are a very close-knit group that loves to spend time with each other both at work and in our personal lives. We look forward to meeting you virtually and wish you all well this interview season.
Your chiefs,
