Our fellows come from medical schools around the U.S. and outside the country. See what one of them has to say about our program.
Aaron Amundson, D.O.
Medical school: Des Moines University, Des Moines, IA
Residency: University of South Dakota, Vermillion, SD
Background: Dr. Aaron Amundson is originally from Albert Lea, Minnesota, and is very excited to be close to family again. He completed medical school at Des Moines University, pathology residency in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and a forensic pathology fellowship in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Dr. Amundson likes to play Dungeons & Dragons with his friends, and when it’s summer he likes to eat plenty of S’mores by the campfire with his wife and kids. Dr. Amundson was drawn to the cardiovascular pathology fellowship as he wanted to be able to bring an extra bit of knowledge to whatever team he is a part of and really enjoys looking at cardiac histology. Additionally, getting to live much closer to grandparents for his kids was a great bonus. He is excited to soak up as much cardiovascular information as he can during this fellowship!
Why did you chose Mayo Clinic for your fellowship? I chose Mayo Clinic because I had the pleasure of being able to do an away rotation with the cardiovascular department at Mayo Clinic during my residency and it was one of the very few places with an accredited cardiovascular pathology program. The consultants are great to work with and always willing to teach you something new. Having the ability to practice using digital pathology is another great part of the program here. Being from Minnesota also meant that my wife and kids would be close to grandparents and other family, which was an added bonus.
