Meet the Faculty

Faculty for the Cardiovascular Pathology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota.

Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is one of the largest clinical laboratories in the world. It is composed of 3,000 people who provide services in 40 specialty laboratories performing more than 25 million tests a year.

A highly skilled team of medical professionals, including physicians, scientists, medical technologists, medical technicians, lab assistants, biologists, chemists, microbiologists, geneticists, and other specialists, work collaboratively. The department receives specimens for testing from Mayo Clinic and Mayo Clinic Health System and is a reference laboratory for other clinics and hospitals both nationally and internationally.

The Division of Anatomic Pathology has approximately 60 pathologists with specialty expertise covering the entire field of pathology. The division is organized around working groups dedicated to specific organ systems, but all members contribute service to general areas as well, such as frozen section lab, autopsy, and cytology.

The division is supported by a full-service histology and immunohistochemistry laboratory, an active electron microscopy section and a growing in situ hybridization lab. The hospital surgical pathology practice is unique in its heavy reliance on rapid frozen section diagnosis, providing trainees a valuable opportunity for immediate correlation of gross and microscopic pathology.

Mayo Clinic's annual volume of cardiovascular pathology includes more than 2,500 surgical specimens, 600 endomyocardial biopsy specimens, 500 hearts from autopsy, and 300 extramural cardiovascular pathology consultations.
