Tim Shen, M.D.

Residency: Emergency Medicine at Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN
Background: Dr. Tim Shen was born in San Diego, California. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Indiana. He obtained his medical doctorate at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine in Chicago, Illinois. Concluding this, Dr. Shen completed an emergency medicine residency at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. In his spare time, he enjoys playing soccer, pickleball, sewing, cooking, and walking his mini golden doodle, Maisey, with his wife, Marisa.
What are you most excited about experiencing during your fellowship? I chose the Clinical Informatics Fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester because it offers the opportunity to grow at the intersection of patient care, technology, and innovation. After completing my emergency medicine residency at Mayo, I have seen firsthand its patient-centered culture, collaborative environment, and commitment to improving care through data-driven solutions. I am grateful to continue my training here, and it is also meaningful to remain in Rochester while my wife completes her orthopedic residency at Mayo Clinic.

What drew you to our program? Upon completion of my residency in Emergency Medicine, I was drawn to the Clinical Informatics program at Mayo Clinic because it is the world's leader in healthcare informatics. It is home to the first electronic medical record system as we know them, pioneers hundreds of cutting-edge IT initiatives every year, and has a vision for continuous improvement for the future. In my opinion, Mayo Clinic is the best place to study medicine and clinical informatics.
What are you most excited about experiencing during your fellowship? I am very excited to learn best practices from the Mayo Clinic's leaders in Clinical Informatics. I am also looking forward to becoming a certified physician builder and having the opportunity to use multiple Mayo-based platforms for research and innovation such as Advanced Data Lake and Discover.
Mayo Fellows Association (MFA)
The Mayo Fellows Association (MFA) offers a peer and social support network for residents and fellows and their families with social events, athletics, and advocacy. The MFA also holds an annual resident and fellow appreciation event open to all trainees with complimentary massages, stress-reducing activities, and social support.
