Department and Faculty
The Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, specializes in the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of diseases of the digestive tract and liver. It is the largest practice of its kind in the United States.
On a typical day, approximately 5,700 patients receive care at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester. On average, 27,000 outpatient visits occur within our division each year. Approximately 80% of patients are from Minnesota, Iowa, or Wisconsin. Approximately 33% of patients are covered by Medicare, and 10 to 15% of trainees' patients are from underserved communities.
The division is organized around interest groups oriented toward disease processes, organ systems, procedures, or patient groups. Clinical expertise is integrated with the newest forms of established and experimental diagnostic and therapeutic methods.
