Our residents and faculty foster a collegial environment and education-focused culture that provides an inclusive learning experience. Training can be challenging, but our program is close-knit and each resident brings a dedication to providing stellar patient care as well as a collaborative learning experience.
Our learners come from all 50 states, Washington D.C., Puerto Rico, and more than 80 countries. We rely on your unique experiences and vantage points to drive the future of equitable patient care.

The general surgery residency at Mayo Clinic is unique in its incorporation of research into its training program. Unlike many other general surgery programs, each resident can choose their level of involvement in research. Residents can choose to complete training in a traditional five-year track, or can dedicate a select number of years to research. They offer a Clinical-Investigator Training Program to residents which offers two, fully funded research years under a clinical mentor.
