Overview
Mayo Clinic's Neuropathology Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota, provides two years of intensive training in neuropathology, leading to subspecialty certification by the American Board of Pathology. Trainees may enter the program as part of a combined four-year Anatomic Pathology Residency and Neuropathology Fellowship or as a standalone two-year Neuropathology Fellowship.
The program emphasizes the development of diagnostic skills and the ability to synthesize clinicopathological correlations. As a trainee in this program, you will:
- Develop skills in diagnostic neuropathology of surgical and autopsy cases
- Interpret lesions by light and electron microscopy, immunohistochemistry, and state-of-the-art molecular testing techniques
- Participate in dedicated rotations in neuromuscular and peripheral nerve laboratories
- Gain experience in the interpretation of eye specimen tissue
Teaching sets and archival material spanning many decades is available, which include clinical summaries, gross and microscopic images, and microscopic slides.

- Adult and pediatric central and peripheral nervous system neoplasia

During the fellowship, you develop and maintain close relationships with Mayo Clinic's neurology, neuro-oncology, neurosurgery, and neuroradiology services.
