Overview

The Otolaryngology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, provides excellent surgical and medical training in all areas of otolaryngology and head and neck surgery.

This five-year residency prepares graduates for either private practice or academic medicine through education and training with board-certified and fellowship-trained staff that teach management concepts in:

  • Head and neck oncology
  • Neurotology
  • Laryngology
  • Rhinology and endoscopic skull base surgery
  • Facial plastic and reconstructive surgery
  • Pediatric otolaryngology
  • Facial trauma
  • Microvascular free tissue transfer

The Otolaryngology Residency uses a unique apprenticeship system in which residents are assigned to one or two Mayo Clinic staff consultants for three-month periods. This system gives you graduated responsibility and close supervision and interaction.

Mayo Clinic also offers a visiting medical student clerkship in otorhinolaryngology. Additionally, Mayo Clinic was the site of the first known total larynx transplant performed as part of a clinical trial, the first completed on a patient with active cancer in the United States.
