Department and Faculty

The Nemours Anesthesiology Department is a highly integrated, collaborative group of pediatric anesthesiologists. All Nemours faculty hold academic appointments in College of Medicine and Science, Mayo Clinic.

Each faculty member is committed to patient care, education, research and inquiry in his or her daily practice. All faculty members actively participate in resident training with predominately one-on-one supervision. A considerable number of the faculty conduct clinical research, teach postgraduate and continuing education programs throughout the U.S., and are leaders in anesthesia-related societies and communities.

The Department of Anesthesiology performs over 14,000 cases annually, of which residents participate in approximately 5,000. The Nemours Children's Clinic in Jacksonville partners with Wolfson Children's Hospital, which is part of the Baptist Health care system.

Wolfson Children's Hospital is a modern, advanced pediatric facility that provides services in pediatric subspecialty areas, including cardiothoracic, neurosurgical, general pediatric, orthopedic, plastic, ENT, ophthalmology, and urology. All aspects of pediatric surgical and anesthesia care are part of the pediatric anesthesia practice. Nemours anesthesia faculty members also provide care to pediatric pain patients in an acute and chronic setting. Hospitalized pediatric patients with acute pain or regional catheters in place are covered by the pediatric pain service, which is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

In addition, anesthesia team members provide services at several "outfield" locations, including the outpatient surgery center, catheterization lab, and radiology suites that include computerized tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, and nuclear medicine.

Amy Burns, MDWelcome and we thank you for your interest in our Pediatric Anesthesiology Fellowship! Joint partnership with Nemours Children's Health and sponsored by Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, we offer you a unique learning experience.

Our program, along with our partners Wolfson Children's Hospital and University of Florida, Jacksonville, serve a population of approximately 1.5 million people in the greater Jacksonville and surrounding four county area (St. John's, Nassau, Clay, and Baker). You will get to work with a large variety of top performing physicians from across the nation to provide the highest quality services in a caring and efficient manner, while sustaining outstanding programs in research and education.

Our Pediatric Anesthesiology Division strives to put children and their families at ease while providing the highest level of expert care in the operating rooms and pediatric intensive care unit. Our Pediatric Anesthesiologists have all received specialty training in the anesthetic care of children and are dedicated to helping families feel comfortable with their child's specific anesthetic care plan.

I believe that a work environment should be supportive, our best work is done as a team, and the well-being of the physicians is as crucial as that of our patient. We are excited to teach the next generation of pediatric anesthesiologists and to move our specialty into the future. We look forward to hearing from you.
