Meet The Faculty

Mayo Clinic physical rehabilitation physicians helping a patient

The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at Mayo Clinic focuses on fostering functional recovery for inpatients and outpatients through an integrated, multidisciplinary team of rehabilitation professionals.

Founded in 1935, the department is one of the largest in the nation and includes 40 physiatrists (physicians specializing in rehabilitation medicine), 83 physical therapists, 59 occupational therapists, and two recreational therapists. Inpatient services are offered at Mayo Clinic Hospital — Rochester, which includes the Saint Marys and Methodist campuses.

In addition to caring for patients in their clinical practices, Mayo Clinic's faculty members are committed to teaching and facilitating the growth of medical knowledge. Many of our faculty have published and lectured extensively and are highly regarded in their fields.

You have direct access to the physical medicine and rehabilitation faculty at Mayo Clinic throughout your training.

Advisers and mentors

You are assigned a faculty adviser who can provide educational advice and personal support. Your adviser also serves as a contact point, introducing you to Rochester, Minnesota, and the Mayo Clinic system.

Visiting professors

Many prominent professors visit Mayo Clinic each year. They present their work during lectures and participate in hospital rounds. Resident attendance at these educational opportunities is supported and encouraged.
