Psychiatry Residency Reproductive and Sexual Health Area of Distinction
The Psychiatry Residency Reproductive and Sexual Health Area of Distinction was created in 2025. This is an opportunity for residents to gain specialty knowledge and increased clinical exposure in reproductive psychiatry and graduate with a recognized area of distinction.
Program Structure
PGY-3
- Complete currently required PGY3 Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Clinic (PMAC) rotation.
- At least one therapy patient where a focus of the work is related to reproductive psychiatry or sexual health concerns (i.e. infertility, parenting, pregnancy, postpartum).
- Complete proposal for scholarly project. This could serve as a grand rounds presentation, poster submission, or publication.
- Participate in the Mayo Clinic Perinatal Mental Health Workgroup meetings, approximately quarterly.
PGY-4
- Continue PMAC rotation throughout PGY4 year.
- At least one therapy patient where a focus of the work is related to reproductive psychiatry or sexual health concerns (i.e. infertility, parenting, pregnancy, postpartum).
- Complete additional elective rotations in reproductive health including: Women’s Health, Men’s Health, and at least one day with lactation team. Additional electives in the Young Child Behavioral clinic, reproductive endocrinology (REI), and an away elective at a perinatal intensive outpatient program could also be considered.
- Complete and present/submit scholarly project.
- Participate in weekly National Curriculum in Reproductive Psychiatry (NCRP) fellows’ didactic series.
- Participate in Mayo Clinic specific resident education on reproductive psychiatry. We provide a yearly didactic to the OBGYN residents.
- Participate in the Mayo Clinic Perinatal Mental Health Taskforce meetings, approximately quarterly.
- Participate in supervision (case management, career supervision that is already in place) with interested faculty.
Qualifications
To qualify for the Reproductive and Sexual Health Area of Distinction, one must be a resident in good standing. The resident should have strong interest in reproductive and sexual health.
