Application Process
Positions
There are 19 positions available in the Transitional Year Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona each year on a competitive basis. These positions are designated as follows:
- Five positions to the Adult Neurology Residency (Arizona)
- Two positions to the Dermatology Residency (Arizona)
- Five positions to the Anesthesiology Residency (Arizona)
- Six positions to the Diagnostic Radiology Program (Arizona)
- One position to the Radiation Oncology Residency (Arizona)
Qualifications
The Transitional Year Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona is open to graduates of approved medical schools on a competitive basis. In addition, you must have taken the appropriate board examinations.
All applicants enter at the PGY-1 level. Residents simultaneously apply for a PGY-2 position in the anesthesiology, dermatology, neurology, radiology, or radiation oncology categorical programs at Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona. There is no separate admission process for the Transitional Year Residency.

How to apply
The Transitional Year Residency application process is only through the categorical residency programs in anesthesiology, dermatology, neurology, radiology, and radiation oncology. The Transitional Year Residency supports the PGY-1 year requirement for these residencies at Mayo Clinic's campus in Arizona.
There is no separate application process for the Transitional Year Residency. Please consult the categorical program websites for application instructions and deadlines.
Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited to a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty. At that time, you will meet with current residents and may participate in virtual conferences. Interviews are conducted between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31 each year prior to the match date.
