Department and Faculty
Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, works closely with liver transplant specialists and other hepatologists at our Mayo Clinic sites in Minnesota and Florida. Collaboration with our sister locations allows us to use similar protocols and maintain successful outcomes. The transplant program combines both medical and surgical expertise with leadership in clinical research, and patient education and support. More than 1,700 liver transplants have been performed since the program began full operation in 1999 and our transplant volume is one of the highest in the country. We have a robust living donor transplant program. The outcomes of the program have exceeded national averages in all categories.
From the program directors
At the Transplant Hepatology Fellowship program at Mayo Clinic in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona, our mission is to train transplant hepatologists to be exceptional clinicians, respected scholars, and leaders in the field. It reflects Mayo Clinic’s deep commitment to expert clinical practice, education, and research, providing exceptional whole-person care to everyone who needs healing.
Our fellowship program activities include working with faculty mentors based on the fellow’s specific research interests; providing sufficient exposure to the medical indications and contraindications for liver transplant, including management of complex cases; attending the Mayo Clinic Enterprise transplant core curriculum series and traveling to regional UNOS meetings; and providing fellows with protected time for research, statistical support, and financial support to attend presentation meetings.
This is an exciting time to be in Transplant Hepatology. We are always looking for fellows with a strong work ethic and who subscribe to Mayo’s primary value that "the needs of the patient come first."
We encourage you to know more about our program and how it can further your career interests.
