The role of a paramedic can be challenging, both physically and mentally. As a way to prioritize student wellness, all students work with our chaplain resources and student services on resilience strategies.
Emergency paramedic graduates: Where are they now?
My favorite aspect of the program has been the opportunities to learn in some of the most incredible environments. We had many real-world opportunities and many lab experiences that provided value incomparable to anything else I've experienced such as the Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory working next to Dr. White, the Cadaver Laboratory, and the Simulation Center.

One highlight for me was the top-of-the-line classroom instruction combined with the field training shifts. I had very knowledgeable and dedicated preceptors who pushed me to become a better care provider and helped me learn to take my skills from book to field. The Cadaver Laboratory and Simulation Centers were also an amazing learning experience. Our time spent in the Cadaver Laboratory had us learning a lot about the heart. We also practiced numerous intubations and surgical airway skills.

Advancement opportunities for an emergency medicine paramedic
There will always be a great need for paramedics, as their skills are extremely important when responding to emergencies, natural disasters, and acts of violence. With additional training, education, and experience, some paramedics may advance into an EMS instructor role. Paramedics also can transition into more advanced areas of health care and choose to train as registered nurses or doctors. Those interested in becoming a paramedic can prepare for their future role by taking courses in science, math, anatomy and physiology, and foreign languages.
