Application Instructions

Applications are reviewed as they are received. You are encouraged to apply early.

Application instructions

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission
    • Select - Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences
    • Select - Histology Technician Program
  2. Complete each section of the application and submit
  3. Important additional required items: After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents
    • Complete a personal essay to include answers to the following questions and then upload to the Supplemental Items section
      1. How did you become interested in the field you have chosen to study? Describe any observational or training experience(s) you have had and what you learned about the career from the experience(s).
      2. What are your career objectives within the field?
      3. How has your previous education or training prepared you for your career choice? What awards, academic honors, or scholarships have you received that might apply to your chosen field? What school or community activities have you participated in?
      4. Describe any personal qualities or experiences that make you a competitive candidate for this program.
    • Complete the Recommendation Requests section. Each recommender will receive an email with a link to complete a rating form. Three recommendations are required, at least one academic and one professional is preferred.
    • Unofficial transcripts of all college and university credits must be uploaded into the Supplemental Items section. High school transcripts are NOT required. If accepted into the program, official transcripts will be required prior to the start of the program.

Interview process

The selection committee carefully reviews each application. Individuals considered for an acceptance are invited to participate in a virtual, behavioral interview with the program director and selected interview committee members.

A tour of the facility may be offered to those unfamiliar with the campus and program facilities following the interview.

Acceptance

Acceptance letters are emailed to applicants. If you are accepted, your reply is expected within 10 days of receipt of letter. Prior to starting the program, you must complete a health review and background check.
