Application Process

Applications open November 1 and close January 15 at 11:59 p.m. EST. Please review the below information for eligibility requirements and application instructions before applying.

Prerequisites

To be eligible for the internship, you must:

  • Must be 18 years old by start of the program
  • Have a GPA of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale
  • Have completed your freshman year of college prior to the start of the program
  • Be currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, an accredited U.S. college or university. 
    • Recent graduates must have graduated within 13 months of the CRISP start date. While CRISP primarily serves undergraduate students and recent graduates, a limited number of positions may be awarded to exceptional applicants enrolled in graduate degree programs (e.g., MPH, MHA, MBA).
    • Applicants who have already matriculated into a professional degree program (e.g. MD, DO, DDS, PharmD, PhD) are not eligible for CRISP.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or an F-1 student enrolled at a U.S. institution.
    • Because eligibility requirements vary by institution, we strongly recommend that F-1 students consult their university's international student office before applying and obtain written confirmation or a letter verifying their eligibility to participate in the internship. Additional information regarding federal student employment regulations is available through the Students and Employment | USCIS website.
    • Mayo Clinic does not provide visa sponsorship for CRISP participants.
  • Individuals who have already completed two summers in the CRISP program are not eligible to apply. 

 

Application instructions

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission. Select the following when creating an account:
    • School of Study - Office of Non-Clinical Education Programs
    • Area of Interest - Clinical Research Internship Study Program (CRISP)
  2. Once logged on, select Create a New Application
  3. Select Start a Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science Experience Application
  4. Complete each section of the application and submit
  5. After submission:
    • Select the View button next to your application
    • Select the Supplemental Items and Documents tab
      • Upload your supplemental items. Listed Below.
      • Complete the Recommendation Request section

Additional required items

  • Essay: Include the following and then upload it in the Supplemental Items section:
    • In 500 words or less, write about your career goals and how your personal and educational experiences support your progression towards those goals.
  • Unofficial college transcripts: They must include the current GPA and may be uploaded in the Supplemental Items area.
  • Recent CV/resume.
  • Letter of Recommendation: This is required and must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. The recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter.
    • Professional: References should be individuals who are/were an authority figure in your current/previous schooling or place of employment.
    • Generally, the longer the relationship with the letter writer the stronger the letter of recommendation. For example: High school sports coach for three years versus professor of one semester.
  • Video submission: Submit a video response to the prompt posted below. The video must be no longer than 2 minutes. Include an accessible URL or shareable link in the Supplemental Items section.

  • ORC ID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID): The ORCID allows you to create a unique author identifier for yourself to specifically identify your publications.
    • Register at ORCID. After the registration, you will be given a 16-digit ORCID identifier and will need to include in your submission.
