Meet Our Fellows

The Clinical Chemistry, Post Ph.D. Fellowship draws trainees from across the U.S. and around the world. While all our trainees have a love of learning and a compassionate approach to patient care, they come from diverse backgrounds, family status, and professional and personal interests.

Chelsea Swartchick, Ph.D.

Chelsea Swartchick, Ph.D.

What drew you to our program? I was interested in Mayo Clinic for training as they are the only program with an NMR instrument for biological testing, which aligns with some of my doctoral work! I was/am very excited to also get exposure to a broad range of assays and tests with Mayo being a reference lab. 

What are you most excited about experiencing during your fellowship? I am most excited about beginning my career in clinical chemistry and being able to contribute to the betterment of patient care! I am also very excited to learn how the techniques and skills from graduate school can be used to make an impact in the clinical realm.

What drew you to our program? The Clinical Chemistry Fellowship Program at Mayo Clinic provides unparalleled training resources in laboratory medicine with well-structured curriculum and hands-on experience in general and specialized clinical laboratories.

What are you most excited about experiencing during your fellowship? The numerous educational and research opportunities through the program to learn and apply clinical chemistry knowledge to patient care. As a trainee, I believe I will benefit from the top-tier medical facility as well as mentorship from faculty with diverse expertise.

What makes this program unique?
At Mayo, we are exposed to a huge number of complex and diverse clinical cases, making it an ideal place for clinical training. We are trained by faculty who are experts and leaders in our field and have a chance to gain invaluable hands-on experience in different clinical laboratories and participate in research projects during training.

What does your future look like right now?
I am very proud and excited to be training at Mayo Clinic. The exceptional clinical training and abundant resources unquestionably fill me with confidence about my prospects. After completion of the training, I believe that I will have more potential and better capability in the development of my future career!

What makes this program unique?
Mayo Clinic truly offers the most comprehensive training in laboratory medicine. Not only do we benefit from the large reference lab at Mayo, but we also rotate through clinical, hospital, and specialized labs. The number of faculty involved in the program is incredible, so a wide variety of research projects are available. Fellows are able to sample all that the clinical chemistry world has to offer at Mayo Clinic.

What does your future look like right now?
The application of my fundamental chemistry knowledge to the clinical setting has been extremely rewarding. I am excited to rotate through the niche labs that are unique to the program and eventually present my research at national conferences.
