Director's Welcome

Eva Carmona PorqueraThe Clinician Investigator Training Program is the flagship of Mayo Clinic's postgraduate programs dedicated to the training of physician-scientists in internal medicine, surgery, and all specialties and subspecialties.

Established in 1980, the program provides support for research and trains physician-scientists in all areas of research — basic research, disease-oriented research, and patient-oriented research. Research training is structured within the relevant clinical residency and fellowship programs.

The strength and depth of biomedical research at Mayo Clinic provides an invaluable and unique opportunity for research training. In addition to the wide variety of research in all specialties and subspecialties, there are numerous research initiatives in the Center for Individualized Medicine, the Center for Regenerative Medicine and the Center for the Science of Health Care Delivery. There also are nationally recognized initiatives in the Mayo Clinic Cancer Center and the Robert and Arlene Kogod Center on Aging.

Moreover, research initiatives are vigorous in departments such as physiology and biomedical engineering, biochemistry and molecular biology, regenerative medicine, molecular pharmacology and experimental therapeutics, immunology, artificial intelligence, and molecular medicine, among others. Mayo's Center for Clinical and Translational Science (CCaTS) provides outstanding research opportunities in translational and patient-oriented research as well as postgraduate training opportunities.

As a clinician investigator trainee, you can draw from a deep and diverse pool of mentors from these and other programs in which research training and initiatives can be pursued.

We very much thank you for your interest in Mayo's Clinician Investigator Training Program. We believe this program provides unique and outstanding research training embedded in your clinical residency or fellowship program, and, as such, promises a successful career in biomedical research.
