Early Subspeciality Pathways
Nuclear Medicine Pathway
The ABR 16-Month Nuclear Radiology Pathway offers Diagnostic Radiology residents a streamlined opportunity to achieve both DR board certification and subspecialty certification in Nuclear Radiology during residency. Residents complete comprehensive training in general nuclear medicine, SPECT/CT, and advanced PET/CT imaging, including FDG, PSMA, DOTATATE, choline, and FES studies, while gaining experience in protocol development, image interpretation, and multidisciplinary patient care. Trainees are also actively involved in theranostics and radiopharmaceutical therapy, participating in patient consultations, treatment workups, therapy planning, radiopharmaceutical administration, and longitudinal follow-up, preparing them for independent practice in both diagnostic and therapeutic nuclear medicine.
Pediatric Radiology Pathway
The ABR 15-Month Pediatric Radiology Pathway offers Diagnostic Radiology residents a streamlined opportunity to achieve both DR board certification and subspecialty certification in Pediatric Radiology during residency. Residents complete comprehensive training in pediatric imaging across a broad range of modalities, including pediatric radiography, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, CT, MRI, and nuclear medicine, with exposure to both routine and complex congenital, developmental, and acquired conditions. Trainees gain experience in age-appropriate imaging protocols, sedation and contrast considerations, image interpretation, and multidisciplinary patient care, while working closely with pediatric subspecialists and surgical teams. Residents are also actively involved in specialized areas such as fetal imaging, pediatric neuroradiology, pediatric body imaging, and oncologic imaging, preparing them for independent practice and the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered imaging care to infants, children, and adolescents.
Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) Pathway
The ESIR curriculum offers Diagnostic Radiology residents a streamlined opportunity to pursue intensive training in Interventional Radiology during residency to prepare them for advanced IR fellowship while completing the requirements for Diagnostic Radiology board certification. Residents receive comprehensive exposure to a broad range of image-guided procedures, including vascular and nonvascular interventions, embolization, drainage procedures, biopsy, ablation, and oncologic interventions, while developing expertise in procedural planning, image guidance, peri-procedural management, and patient care. Trainees gain increasing responsibility in the evaluation and management of patients before, during, and after procedures, with experience in multidisciplinary collaboration and the longitudinal care of patients with complex conditions.
