Welcome from the chief residents

On behalf of our residents and faculty, thank you for your interest in the Diagnostic Radiology Residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. Choosing a program for training is among the most meaningful decisions of your career. We remember exactly what it felt like to be where you are now, and we wrote this statement with that moment in mind.

Our program is built on the strength of the institution itself. Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville is consistently recognized by U.S. News & World Report as one of the best hospitals in Florida, and our department serves as a national and international referral center. As a resident, you will see a wide range of rare pathology and interact with numerous robust clinical services, including a busy solid organ transplant service. Our integrated, cross-enterprise EMR and PACS also grant us access to a breadth of cases and expertise from Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Arizona. Local affiliations with Nemours Children's Health, Wolfson Children's Hospital, and UF Health Jacksonville further broaden our exposure to pediatrics and trauma.

Resident education is our priority. Training begins with a categorical intern year in internal medicine on our Jacksonville campus, so residents become part of the Mayo family from day one. Once you start your radiology training, every rotation is led by nationally and internationally recognized core faculty, and our 1:1 faculty-to-resident ratio keeps learning individualized and engaging. With relatively few fellows, residents also gain extensive procedural experience without competing for advanced cases.

Unique subspecialty training options are another strength of our program. For those with an early interest in interventional radiology, we offer two positions per class for the Early Specialization in Interventional Radiology (ESIR) pathway. We also offer dedicated pathways for nuclear medicine and pediatric radiology which build 16 months of focused training into the four-year residency, allowing residents to graduate eligible for specialty certification in diagnostic radiology and subspecialty certification in either nuclear medicine or pediatric radiology.

Above all, it is the people and culture of our department that make training here both fulfilling and rewarding. We come from all walks of life with a shared team-based mentality and a wholehearted dedication to one another's wellbeing and success. Most importantly, each member of our department embodies Mayo Clinic's three interlocking shields of patient care, education, and research, with the needs of our patients always at the center. The Mayo Clinic ethos is palpable in everything we do.

	Bret Garza, M.D. Hometown: Richmond Hill, GA Medical school: Mercer University School of Medicine About me: I come from a military family, so I've lived in several places throughout my life. However, I call Georgia home. My favorite games to play are League of Legends and chess. I have a wonderful dog named Shadow. My career interests include medical education and mentoring.
	Jack Cerillo, D.O. Hometown: Tampa, FL Medical school: NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine, Tampa Bay About me: I was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and received my undergrad degree in ISOM at the University of Florida before moving back to Tampa for medical school. Outside of work I enjoy visiting friends/family, smoking meats, beach walks, running, Pilates, and working on engines and other odd jobs in my garage. My future wife and I can be found cruising the beach on our tandem bike with our yellow lab Sam in tow.
	Alissa Hendricks-Wenger, D.O., Ph.D. Hometown: Arlington, TX Medical school: Lincon Memorial University DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine, Knoxville, TN About me: I was born and raised in North Texas and, since finishing undergrad have been state hopping ever since! I studied biomedical engineering at the University of Texas at Arlington before completing a PhD at Virginia Tech, where my research focused on the immunologic and oncologic effects of novel tumor ablation therapies. Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my husband and our two dogs; playing video and board games; traveling, with the goal of visiting all 50 states before finishing residency (only eight left!); reading fiction, fantasy, and philosophy; and exploring new restaurants and coffee shops.
	Sophia Mirkin, D.O. Hometown: Pembroke Pines, Florida Medical school: NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine  About me: I was born and raised in South Florida. For undergrad, I studied biology at University of Florida and Nova Southeastern University. Outside of work, my interests include running, basketball, scuba diving, 80s movies, long beach walks, and spending time with friends and family.
	Clyde (Colby) Robinson, D.O. Hometown: Portland, Maine Medical school: University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine About me: I was born and raised in Portland, Maine. Growing up, I played a wide variety of sports, but hockey was the most prominent part of my life. I attended the University of New England for both my undergraduate studies and medical school, where I discovered my passion for the sciences, especially radiology. Moving to Florida has been an extraordinary experience, highlighted by the honor of training at the Mayo Clinic. While in Florida, I prioritize staying active by going to the gym, enjoying the beach, and building friendships across the hospital. Academically, I am considering the ESIR pathway, with a particular interest in vascular interventional radiology, peripheral artery disease, and peripheral venous diseases.
	Camaray Rouse, M.D. Hometown: Carrollton , GA Medical school: Meharry Medical College  About me: Originally from Georgia, I have lived around the southeast. I’m excited to call Jacksonville and Mayo Clinic home. Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, fishing, hiking, and staying active with my wife.
	Mara Jindeel, M.D. Hometown: Los Angeles, California Medical school: St. George’s University School of Medicine About me: I grew up in Los Angeles and moved to Minnesota after graduating from UCLA. My medical school journey took me from Minnesota to Grenada, then New York, Cleveland, and finally Florida. I love traveling and connecting with people from varying backgrounds. During my free time, I enjoy trying new restaurants and experimenting with making creative dishes to share with friends. I love long walks in nature and chasing sunsets.

	Lerone Clark, D.O. Hometown: Elmont, NY  Medical school: New York Institute of Technology College of Osteopathic Medicine  About me: I'm originally from New York, and love all of the classic NYC things — theatre, art, music, and a good slice of NY pizza! I enjoy spending time with my family, going on cruises, playing video games, and trying new restaurants. I'm excited to be completing my diagnostic radiology residency at Mayo Clinic.
	Sam D’Amico, D.O. Hometown: Wayne, NJ Medical school: William Carey University College of Osteopathic Medicine About me: I've enjoyed living in several different states, each marking a meaningful chapter in my life — New Jersey, where I grew up; Vermont, where I attended college and worked as a research coordinator; Mississippi, where I completed medical school; and now Florida, where I'm excited to be for residency. In my free time, I enjoy riding my horse, Magnolia, and spending time with my husband, Alec, and our dog, Luna.
	Laura Minton Garton, M.D. Hometown: Gadsden, AL Medical school: University of Alabama at Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine  About me: I enjoy walking on the beach with my husband, working out at the gym, learning at museums, and thrifting. My favorite hobby is writing, and I have kept a journal since I was eight years old. At the sunny Mayo Clinic Florida, I am learning and growing to become a radiologist — a detective, an encyclopedia, an artist, and a physician, all at once. This is my dream!
	Chloe Hille, D.O. Hometown: Minneapolis, MN Medical school: Nova Southeastern University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Tampa Bay Regional Campus About me: I grew up in Minneapolis with a big and very close-knit family as one of six kids. For college I decided to fly the coop and studied anatomy and cell biology at McGill University in Montreal. From there I decided to pursue warmer weather, and completed medical school in Tampa, Florida which ultimately led me to residency here at Mayo Clinic. In my free time, I enjoy long-distance running, golfing, exploring the Jax food and coffee scene, baking, playing guitar, bingeing the latest Netflix reality show, and spending time reading and relaxing with my dog, Pepper.
	Kacper Kubiszewski, M.D. Hometown: Chicago, IL Medical school: University of Central Florida College of Medicine About me: Born in Poland and raised in Chicago, Florida has been my home since medical school. I am passionate about interventional radiology and its promise of innovation, and I am excited to be part of a program that stands at the forefront of the field. Specifically, I am interested in the advancement of IR as a clinical specialty and global health initiatives. Outside the hospital, I enjoy staying active through running and weightlifting, exploring new music, discovering new restaurants, and watching sports like Formula 1 and football (Go Bears!).
	Jonathan Parker, M.D. Hometown: San Diego, CA Medical school: Eastern Virginia Medical School About me: I grew up in San Diego and spent some time in Montana after undergrad. In my free time, I enjoy being active outdoors, reading, and going to the beach with my wife and two kids. My family and I are loving Jacksonville for its family-friendly atmosphere and all it has to offer.
	Dhruv Shetty, M.B.B.S. Hometown: Mumbai, India Medical school: Seth G.S. Medical College About me: I grew up in Mumbai, so Florida summers feel just like home. I enjoy football, cricket, video games, reading, and binge-watching The Office. I’m also always up for a deep dive into the latest tech that’s caught my interest. My passion for neuroradiology began during a year of research in the field, and I look forward to exploring my interest further during my residency.

	Noelani (Nui) Gonzales, D.O. Hometown: Portland, OR, and Honolulu, HI Medical school: NSU Dr. Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine  About me: I was born in Hawaii and raised in Oregon. For undergrad, I studied human physiology at the University of Oregon. Outside of work, my interests include singing, guitar, indie video games, photography, fiction books, and hanging out with my boyfriend and our very, fuzzy cat.
	Parth Patel, M.D. Hometown: Houston, TX Medical school: McGovern Medical School – UTHealth Houston About me: I grew up in India and Canada prior to living in the United States. I studied physics in college and attended medical school in Texas before moving for residency at Mayo Clinic. I enjoy cooking, playing video games, watching Bollywood and sci-fi movies, and trying new restaurants!
	Pavan Brahmbhatt, M.B.B.S. Hometown: Chicago, IL Medical school: Smt. N.H.L Medical College About me: I am originally from Chicago and have always loved big cities. Since moving to Jacksonville, I have grown to love the beach as well! I am an avid traveler, love building and collecting Legos, and enjoy playing basketball with all my friends at Mayo. A cool fact is that I used to be a professional gamer prior to residency, primarily FPS games. Radiology is definitely the best specialty out there!
	Karim Zaazoue M.B.B.Ch. Hometown: Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates Medical school: Ain Shams University Faculty of Medicine, Egypt About me: Born and raised in Abu Dhabi, I later moved to Cairo for medical school. After graduating, I served in the military for two years then moved to the United States to join Mayo Clinic as a researcher and later chose to pursue my training in interventional radiology at Mayo. As a medical student, my older brother and I started a non-profit organization to spread health awareness to children and the underprivileged in Egypt, and I hope to one day join Doctors Without Borders. In my free time I enjoy hiking new trails, hanging out with my friends, trying new restaurants and reading.
	Nolan Otto, M.D. Hometown: Jacksonville, FL Medical school: University of Central Florida College of Medicine About me: I am from Jacksonville, Florida, and have enjoyed spending some years in Orlando and Saint Petersburg, Florida. I enjoy watching sports and playing golf, and try to keep up with practicing guitar. My wife and I love traveling together and taking our golden retriever, Millie, to the beach.
	Lela Okromelidze, M.D. Hometown: Akhaltsikhe, Republic of Georgia Medical school: Tbilisi State Medical University About me: I was born and raised in the Republic of Georgia and moved to the United States to pursue my interest in diagnostic radiology. Research is my passion and one of the reasons why Mayo Clinic was my top choice for the residency training. In my free time I enjoy ballroom dancing, traveling and baking various desserts.
	Joshua Sellwood, D.O. Hometown: South Africa About me: I was born in South Africa and immigrated to the United States when I was 12. I attended undergrad and medical school in Virginia and now live with my wife and daughter here in Florida. We enjoy spending time on the beach, eating seafood, and exploring all the state parks here in Florida. I am passionate about radiology’s role in oncology and hope to focus on both nuclear radiology and interventional oncology in the future.

	Cynthia De la Garza-Ramos M.D. Hometown: Monterrey, NL, Mexico Medical school: Tecnológico de Monterrey  About me: I love training at Mayo as it is a place that offers many opportunities for trainees and has a very positive atmosphere for growth. I enjoy my IR/DR training as well as interventional oncology research. In my spare time, I love practicing yoga and going to the movies or favorite local brewery with my husband, who is a neurosurgery resident at Mayo.
	Christabel Ojieabu, M.B.,Ch.B. Hometown: Sagamu, Nigeria Medical school: Obafemi Awolowo College of Health Sciences, Nigeria About me: I moved to Florida directly from Nigeria in 2022 to begin my residency, and it has been a fantastic experience. When I am not occupied with my residency duties, I like to visit the beach, catch up with family and friends, put together fashion inspirations, binge-watch TV shows and read fiction/romance. Chimamanda Adichie and Nora Roberts are my go-to novelists. Additionally, I often find myself watching dog videos, which leads me to believe that I will be getting a dog soon.
	Gaelle Haddad, M.D. Hometown: Lebanon Medical school: Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL About me: I love to work in a positive environment and strive to spread joy and optimism around me. Beyond the medical realm, I am passionate about fashion, diverse types of dance and classical French music.
	Tyler Sargent, M.D. Hometown: Stuart, FL Medical school: Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine About me: I am a born and raised Floridian and chose to pursue my residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL for its unparalleled culture, case complexity, and emphasis on work-life balance. On the weekends I am doing just about anything on the water, such as surfing, fishing, and boating. I also enjoy HITT/weightlifting at the gym.
	Manasi Arora, M.B.B.S. Hometown: New Delhi, India Medical school: Lady Hardinge Medical College, India About me: Born and raised in India. I am interested in academic radiology, research, and innovation. In my free time, I enjoy traveling, travel and landscape photography, swimming, and playing tennis. I also love to drive to the beach after work, to get some sunshine and spend time with my family and friends.
	Nanjiba Nawaz, M.D.  Hometown: Dhaka, Bangladesh Medical school: Penn State College of Medicine, Hershey, PA About me: I grew up in Bangladesh and moved to the United States for college. I lived in Massachusetts and Pennsylvania before moving south. My favorite hobbies include spending time with my floofy cat and husband, going to the beach, cooking and baking, and traveling.
