Application Process

Positions

Each year, nine positions are available on a competitive basis in the Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Qualifications

Applicants typically apply to the Family Medicine Residency during their fourth year of medical school. Applicants must have graduated from medical school within two years of the anticipated residency start year.

How to apply

The application and all supporting documentation must be submitted by Dec. 1 of the year preceding the program start date.

You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

  1. Visit the ERAS website. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materialsWe require three letters of recommendation and one of your letters of recommendation should be from a practicing family physician. We will be participating in program signaling.
  2. Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates must register through the NRMP website in addition to applying through ERAS.
  3. Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for an interview with the program director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted between early November and the end of January each year. Invited applicants will be offered virtual and in-person interview day options.  Those applicants who select a virtual interview day will have the opportunity to attend an optional, “no-stakes” in-person second look prior to the NRMP rank list due date.
