Alumni

Internal medicine residents in the lab.

Each year, residents meet with program directors to discuss strategies and opportunities for achieving career goals after residency. Potential options include staff positions and fellowships within Mayo Clinic and among competitive programs nationwide.

Two residents are selected to serve a fourth year as chief medical residents.

The Internal Medicine Residency first obtained accreditation from the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) in 1994. We have full, continued ACGME accreditation with commendation as of January 2018.

Our graduates go on to take the American Board of Internal Medicine examination with a 91% pass rate overall since 1998.

“Mayo Clinic has a superior infrastructure for research and as a resident, you are afforded many opportunities to collaborate with leading experts in their field, not only at your campus but enterprise-wide. Through the close mentorship in research, you expand your network for your continued future success and I am confident the research projects and faculty I connected with during my residency had a large part in my matching into a gastroenterology fellowship.”

“Being around so many great clinicians was incredibly beneficial. I learned so much on every rotation. Many of the attendings are leaders in their fields, nationally and internationally. Secondly, the acuity and diversity of pathology of the patients was invaluable. If you can take care of a Mayo patient, you can take care of anyone!”
