Fitness centers

Fitness options at Mayo Clinic in ArizonaAs a resident or fellow at Mayo Clinic in Arizona, you have access to PerkSpot, a Mayo Clinic employee discount program. PerkSpot provides you with many well-being options. Mayo Clinic residents or fellows at our three campuses can get discounted membership fees to area gyms.

All Mayo employees, including Arizona learners, can also sign up to take live virtual fitness classes or view recorded fitness classes offered by the Dan Abraham Healthy Living Center (DAHLC).

Well-being

Cardiovascular diseases fellow works on a computer at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.The Office of Academic Support and Well-Being provides resources to promote academic, emotional, social, cognitive, financial, and physical well-being. Career and academic services include academic advising, peer tutoring, and accommodations for learners with disabilities or health conditions. Mental health services, counseling, interview practice, and a variety of enrichment sessions on topics like budgeting, resiliency, and stress and burn-out are also available through the Academic Support and Well-Being office.

Groups on campus

Trainees at the MERG fairOpportunities to join a variety of groups on campus provide regular social activities and can help enhance your training while connecting with a broad group of peers.

Trainees have the opportunity to join a Mayo Employee Resource Group (MERG) at any time during their training program. MERGs are employee-led affinity groups to promote belonging, increase cultural awareness, and foster an environment of respect and inclusivity. Any Mayo Clinic employee can join a group of interest and choose their level of involvement.

Hiking and rock climbing

The Phoenix area is a hiker's paradise. Camelback Mountain, Phoenix Mountain Preserve, Papago Park, and Mummy Mountain offer stunning views with trails ranging from moderate to challenging. For something more technical, head to the Superstition Mountains or Sedona for rock climbing and rappelling.

Water sports

Lake Pleasant, Saguaro Lake, and Salt River offer kayaking, paddleboarding, and jet skiing. Tubing down the Salt River is a beloved summer activity and a perfect way to cool off.

Golf

Scottsdale is known worldwide for its championship golf courses. With over 200 courses in the area, you'll find options for every skill level and budget. Many courses offer resident rates.

Running, cycling, and fitness

The Phoenix area has excellent cycling trails, running groups, and fitness communities. The Arizona Canal Trail is perfect for running or cycling. Join local running clubs like Phoenix Running Club for community and motivation.

Arizona has an incredible craft beer scene. Breweries like Four Peaks, Arizona Wilderness, and Pheoenix Ale Brewery offer great atmospheres and regularly host events. Mezcal and tequila bars are also huge in Scottsdale.
