The strong sense of camaraderie and belonging, along with the engaging learning environment are some of the most cited positives our fellows share at the conclusion of their training with us at Mayo.

Many fellows move to Rochester, Minnesota, from elsewhere and are looking for friends and to build a strong community. All of our trainees have been selected because of the richness they add to the group and their ability to bring out the best in those around them. It is no surprise that our fellows develop some of their closest friendships with one another!

In addition to the Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine fellows, Mayo has more than 1,900 residents, fellows, and medical and postgraduate students in Rochester. This is a diverse group, as the size and reputation of the institution attract a wide variety of people to Rochester from around the country and the world. Numerous social activities are organized for residents and fellows throughout the year through the Mayo Fellows Association.

We'll support you both inside and outside of Mayo Clinic campus to promote wellness and ensure your work/life balance.

What do you like about the program? I like the open-door policy in the Pulmonary/PCCM training program. The consultants love to teach and are very humble. The staff genuinely care about our well-being and mental health and professional growth, and everyone is treated like family.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? During my free time, I enjoy traveling (arriving at my destination, not the flying part), nature photography, and exploring different cultural practices and foods. I generally enjoy new and unique experiences/activities. When I’m stuck at home, I enjoy watching Nollywood movies and romantic comedies.

What do you like about the program? Each consultant has such passion for their area of interest. Being around people being truly happy and enjoying their job makes it easy to come into work. Fellows are encouraged to aim big and find what they are passionate about and then given the support and resources to make it happen. Without fail I leave every day amazed by something new.

What do you enjoy doing in your free time? I have really tried to take advantage of the outdoor activities nearby! Snowboarding in the winter and bought some kayaks for the warmer months. There is actually a lot of great local music in town so try and make it out to shows when I can.

What do you like about living in Rochester? In the summer/fall people really pack in the outdoor festivities! Our neighborhood throws an annual “Porch Fest” every September and we were able to host a couple Rochester bands on our front porch.
