Overview

As a trainee in the Psychiatry Residency at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, you’ll receive exceptional clinical psychiatry training in an academic environment grounded in the three Mayo Clinic shields: clinical practice, research, and education.

Providing effective consultations for all psychiatry patients means that practical psychotherapy is integrated with thoughtful pharmacotherapy, and then applied to a diverse patient population. Mayo Clinic’s Department of Psychiatry and Psychology is one of the largest psychiatric treatment groups in the United States. More than 80 psychiatrists and psychologists represent every aspect of psychiatric medicine.

The Generose Building at Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus, is a state-of-the-art psychiatric hospital with 73 beds. Beds are divided among child and adolescent, acute adult, medical and geriatric psychiatry, and mood disorders units. Residential and outpatient addiction programs, a pain rehabilitation center, and an outpatient clinic round out the hospital's clinical services.

Subspecialty tracks available for specialized training, such as the Integrated Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Track for residents with a strong interest in working with children and adolescents. The Research Track supports residents interested in clinical research, and the Psychiatry Clinician-Educator Track advances educational aptitudes and academic goals
Teaching opportunities with Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine students and visiting students from other medical schools
