Why Mayo? I chose Mayo because of the incredible opportunity it provides for us to train with and learn from world experts in various niches in cardiology. Our faculty are on the front lines of patient care, research, and guideline writing committees. Despite this, we have the nicest and most approachable faculty you could imagine. Hometown: Eagan, MN

Residency: Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, MN

About me: My clinical interest is in general non-invasive cardiology and imaging, although I’m particularly interested in physiology/hemodynamics, pulmonary hypertension, and cardiometabolic disease. My non-clinical interests are my family (my wife and I have two kids, 7 and 5 years old), a variety of stereotypical nerd hobbies, and the vicious cycle of alternating hope and despair that comes with being a fan of Minnesota’s professional sports teams.

Why Mayo? Mayo Clinic offers truly unique opportunities to learn from world-class clinical and research mentors that I couldn’t pass up. As a bonus, it’s located in a wonderful town in what I wholeheartedly believe is the BEST state in which to live and raise a family. It checked every box for me.

Hometown: Al-Husun, Jordan

Residency: Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, Rochester, MN

About me: I am most interested in valvular heart disease, their interaction with heart failure and atrial fibrillation, and the use of artificial intelligence in the field. Hemodynamics (echo and invasive) fascinate me. Outside of cardiology, I like grilling lamb with charcoal, hiking, kayaking, and chilling on my couch watching TV shows.

Why Mayo? When I was a medical student, I had the opportunity to come to Mayo Clinic for a visiting medical student clerkship in the cardiology consult service. I was impressed by the collegial culture where everyone on the team taught and learned from the other, regardless of hierarchy. I worked side-to-side with world-renowned experts who were down to earth and who set aside the time to teach residents and medical students. Even though my clerkship was only four weeks, I was offered research opportunities when I asked for them. I then spent a year doing research in the Echocardiography lab when I realized the great opportunities, mentorship, and resources that Mayo Clinic offers. I have been Mayo Clinic bound since then.
