PGY-5 Chief Resident, Class of 2027

The radiology program at Mayo Clinic Arizona offers ample opportunities to work directly with and learn from a host of faculty members who are well-known experts in their respective fields. We have the opportunity to care for a variety of patients from several busy referral services including transplant surgery and oncology. Additionally, our program offers early and frequent exposure to a variety of image-guided procedures — including lumbar punctures, ultrasound- and CT-guided biopsies, joint injections and aspirations, among others — which gives us the opportunity to see patients directly and provide diagnostic and therapeutic services.

As radiology residents at Mayo Arizona, we are equipped with resources and excellent support staff to assist with efficient patient care. Research opportunities are abundant, and our faculty members are excellent mentors in the research process. Residents are given a generous allowance to present their scholarly activities at conferences—such as RSNA, ARRS, subspecialty societies, and even international societies—which are excellent for learning and networking.

The true strength of the Radiology Residency Program at Mayo Arizona is our culture. We have a close-knit group of residents and supportive faculty members who are dedicated to cultivating our professional growth. The experience at Mayo Clinic is further enhanced by the plentiful opportunities that the state of Arizona offers. Outdoor activities are everywhere—including hiking in Sedona, tubing the Salt River, and even skiing in Flagstaff.

I’m very grateful for the opportunity to train at Mayo Arizona over the past three years. Both the diagnostic and procedural training are excellent. We are well prepared to pass the Core exam. I also appreciate the faculty commitment to teaching us not only how to interpret images and report studies, but how to function as useful members of a patient’s overall care team. Research and conference trips are highly supported, and I also felt very supported during the fellowship application/interview process. If I had to go back and do it over, I would definitely choose Mayo for residency again!
