Application Process

Positions

Eight PGY-1 positions are available on a competitive basis each year in the Family Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida.

Qualifications

The Family Medicine Residency looks for candidates who share our mission to improve care, improve health, and improve life.

  • Applicants must be graduating within the current academic year or have graduated from medical school within the previous two years. We consider applicants who graduated more than two years prior who have ongoing experiences to maintain clinical knowledge and skills, and who demonstrate a strong commitment to the field of family medicine.
  • Applicants must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS) and enroll in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP) match.
  • Applicants must provide at least three letters of recommendation through ERAS, where at least one letter is from a practicing, board-certified family physician.
  • Applicants must have passing scores on both Step 1 and Step 2 of USMLE/COMLEX exams to be considered. You may still apply while awaiting the results of USMLE/COMLEX Step 2.
  • Applicants must additionally meet all admissions criteria established by Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education.

How to apply

The majority of applications are reviewed within the first week of ERAS opening day in September. The application and all supporting documentation must be submitted by Dec. 31 of the year preceding the program start date. The academic year begins in July.

You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).

  1. Visit the ERAS website. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials.
  2. All appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates must register through the NRMP website in addition to applying through ERAS.
  3. Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited to visit Mayo Clinic for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted between November and mid-January each year.
