What attracted you to medicine and family medicine? I have been fortunate enough to have outstanding mentors who exemplified the impact that a great primary care practitioner can have on their community. I feel my calling is to help others in this world, and the fact that I can provide full spectrum care to an entire family while making meaningful connections is something you only get in this field. Family medicine also provides a pathway for me to complete sports medicine fellowship, which is another subspecialty that I am extremely passionate about.

What is it like living in Jacksonville, Florida? Living in Florida has been amazing for my family. With the big city feel, beach, and suburban communities we absolutely love the versatility of the community and the wide range of activities to do, with and without the kids. It seems like the sun shines every day, and while the summer months may be hot and humid, the rest of the year is perfect weather. Our favorite activities to do as a family of four include going to the beach, the zoo, and hitting up our neighborhood water park. As a couple, my wife enjoys visiting town center and exploring new places in the city. Jacksonville also has a lively sports scene with multiple professional sports teams. Duuuuvvvalllll!!!!! Go Jags! Lastly, the vibes and culture within our Mayo Clinic program have truly made the area home for us.

What is it like living in Jacksonville, Florida? Having grown up on the West Coast for most of my life, I had little frame of reference for what life on the East Coast, or specifically in Jacksonville, might be like. But after living here for the past two years, I can honestly say it has exceeded all expectations. My fiancée and I moved out to Atlantic Beach last year, and we now live just two blocks from the ocean. Being able to unwind by walking in the sand after a long day is something I never take for granted. It’s a rare luxury to be a short, 15-minute drive to your hospital and a 5-minute walk to the beach. Jacksonville has offered us that balance, and affordably. But even beyond the beaches, the city has so much to offer. Jacksonville is geographically one of the largest cities in the country, so whether you prefer suburban comfort, urban energy, or the coastal lifestyle, you can find your niche. I enjoy the perks of a major city: NFL games, minor league baseball, live music, cultural events, while still having the option to spend a quiet, restorative day near the ocean. The golf opportunities are another huge plus. Being able to play year-round is a treat, and it’s one of the many ways I maintain my wellness during residency.

What attracted you to medicine and family medicine? My interest in medicine was first inspired by my grandfather, a psychiatrist and one of the most influential figures in my life. As an athlete growing up, I also developed an early interest in injury diagnosis and recovery. After college, I worked as a scribe in the emergency department and became fascinated by the breadth of clinical presentations and decision-making required in medicine. I loved the pace, the diversity of cases, and the opportunity to be a part of someone's care at a critical moment. However, it wasn’t until medical school, particularly during my third-year rotations at Wake Forest, that I discovered my true calling in family medicine. In many ways, it felt like the specialty chose me more than the other way around. I genuinely felt happiest and most fulfilled during my family medicine rotation. My fiancée even started keeping a “happiness tally,” and both of us noticed that I consistently came home more energized and content when working in the family medicine clinic. What really drew me in was the sense of community and continuity of care, as well as the opportunity to treat patients across all ages and walks of life. Family medicine also allows me to pursue my interest in sports medicine, blending my background in athletics with primary care in a meaningful way.
