Sydney Anderson, D.O. Hometown: Dubuque, Iowa Medical school: Des Moines University About me: Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse was at the top of my list because it was a small, close-knit community program in a world-renowned health system. I felt like every faculty physician and resident was approachable and genuinely interested in getting to know me better. It felt like a community I needed to belong to. I enjoy spending time with my husband, Colton, and our two dachshunds, Maverick and Charlie, anything outdoors (hiking, bicycling, camping, running, kayaking), cooking or baking new recipes, and trying out local restaurants/breweries. I hope to practice full-scope family medicine with a focus in preventative medicine and nutrition.

Bryan Gordon, D.O. Hometown: Fallbrook, California Medical school: Des Moines University About me: When applying to residency I was looking for an unopposed, community-based, family medicine residency that would prepare me for rural practice. Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse checked all those boxes and then some. Everyone is friendly, welcoming, and exceptionally invested in the education of the residents. Another big pull for me in choosing Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse was the people. I felt that I would fit in well with the other residents and it was great to see how well everyone worked together. After residency I hope to practice both inpatient and outpatient family medicine in a rural community. In my free time my wife and I enjoy spending time outdoors hiking, backpacking, canoeing, fishing, and gardening.

Drake Matuska, M.D. Hometown: Mantorville, Minnesota Medical school: University of Minnesota, Duluth About me: There are many reasons why I chose Mayo Clinic Health System in La Crosse for residency, but what ultimately captivated me was the great sense of community I saw during my interview. I had the opportunity to meet many amazing individuals including residents, faculty, and other program staff that I knew would help me grow as a physician and person. Furthermore, my wife and I fell in love with the area, which allowed us to keep our hobbies while being in an outstanding area to raise our future family. My career goal is to practice rural, broad-spectrum family medicine. Additionally, I plan to explore training in sports medicine to help athletes and other active individuals of all ages. I enjoy anything that keeps me active; organized athletics, hunting, fishing, and going hiking with my wife.
