Didactic training

Didactic conferences offer a variety of learning opportunities. Fellows participate in weekly conferences, which include:

  • Journal Club, monthly – focuses on infectious diseases publications with an emphasis on critical evaluation of recent literature
  • Clinical case conferences, bimonthly – inpatient and outpatient cases with a focus on building diagnostic reasoning skills
  • Mayo Clinic multi-site fellows case conference, monthly  – cases are presented and discussion from across Mayo Clinic three ID fellowship programs
  • Core curriculum lectures, weekly – tri-site conference that reviews infectious diseases core topics
  • Infectious diseases research conference, monthly – fellows and faculty present their research activities
  • Microbiology rounds, monthly – combined conference with microbiology department to review interesting cases and microbiology techniques
  • City-wide conference series, quarterly – cases are presented and discussed from across the Jacksonville ID community

Research training

Participate in research projects under the mentorship of Mayo Clinic consulting staff. Research is diverse and outstanding and includes opportunities for clinical and laboratory-based projects.

You may participate in clinical research by using the extensive electronic medical record and clinical databases that are available. The microbiology laboratory offers research opportunities using in vitro techniques with the most novel technologies in microbiology testing and development. Our parasitology and drug discovery research laboratory offers an expansive opportunity to engage in new and exciting grant-funded research in neglected infectious diseases and global health.

Fellowship protocols are reviewed and approved by the Division of Infectious Diseases Research Committee and the Mayo Clinic Institutional Review Board. You're encouraged to present research results at national infectious diseases meetings and publish them in peer-reviewed journals.
