Internal Medicine, Endocrinology (Florida)

Description

The Division of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville has five endocrinologists who provide a range of endocrine consultation services to their colleagues in the clinic and hospital. Consults are also provided to physicians referred from outside of Mayo Clinic. Medical students will work with the staff physician assigned to the consult service and may include hospital as well as outpatient consults.

Specific goals

  1. Become proficient with the evaluation and management strategies for common endocrine disorders including diabetes, thyroid disorders, hyperparathyroidism and osteoporosis.
  2. Learn to use Medline literature searching to answer questions about unusual presentations or uncommon disorders which are encountered during the rotation.

Activity outline

Students may observe patient care provided by the endocrine fellows and staff. In some instances, the student may be assigned to see patients which they will then staff with the supervising consultant. Students are expected to keep an annotated casebook of selected problems which they have encountered during the rotation to discuss with the attending physician. Reading and discussion are encouraged.

Method of evaluation

Student performance is evaluated at the end of the clerkship.

Per Mayo Clinic institutional policy, faculty and residents/fellows will not complete any outside evaluations. You will be provided with an electronic performance evaluation via Mayo Clinic’s MedHub portal. A final summative evaluation will be sent to you and your school official upon completion of your clerkship.
