Internal Medicine, Nephrology (Florida)

Description

Students attend daily morning report and make rounds with the consultant on the Nephrology Service. They also attend scheduled noon conferences in Internal Medicine. In the afternoon, students work up selected new consultations in the hospital under the supervision of residents, the fellow, and the consultant. They are introduced to hemodialysis and, if the schedule allows, may also see patients in the clinic.

Prerequisites

A USMLE Step 2 or COMLEX 2 board score is required to be submitted with your application materials.

Specific goals

  1. Become proficient in understanding nephrology in patient care.
  2. Become familiar with hemodialysis indications and process.

Activity outline

On the Nephrology Service, students are responsible for evaluating patients, presenting them to the supervising consultant, and following the patients' care.

Method of evaluation

All supervising consultants provide a written evaluation of their students' performance. The program coordinator then writes a single summary letter.

Per Mayo Clinic institutional policy, faculty and residents/fellows will not complete any outside evaluations. You will be provided with an electronic performance evaluation via Mayo Clinic’s MedHub portal. A final summative evaluation will be sent to you and your school official upon completion of your clerkship.
