Urology (Florida)
Description
Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida offers a one-month subinternship on our Mentored Based Adult Urology Services. You will be integrated into a tiered mentoring process which includes a single faculty member and a single resident. You rotate at least once per week through services, including: kidney cancer, bladder cancer, prostate cancer, endourology/stones, men's health, and female urology. Applicants are competitively reviewed and the typical sub-intern is a candidate for Urology residency.
Specific goals
- Become familiar with the diagnosis of urological disease and treatment.
- Learn the basic principles of urology.
- Participate actively in surgery.
Activity outline
You are expected to present a case-based mini urology Grand Round (10-15 minutes) once during the rotation. Being on call is not required, however, you are expected to do one Saturday morning per month rounding, assisting with consults, and emergency surgeries.
Method of evaluation
Consultants in urology evaluate students on a daily basis. At the end of each clerkship, this information is conveyed to the program director who writes a letter summarizing the student's performance. No formal examinations are given at the end of the clerkship. Greater emphasis is placed on daily performance toward the end of the rotation than at the beginning.
Per Mayo Clinic institutional policy, faculty and residents/fellows will not complete any outside evaluations. You will be provided with an electronic performance evaluation via Mayo Clinic’s MedHub portal. A final summative evaluation will be sent to you and your school official upon completion of your clerkship.
