Application Process

Internal medicine residents gather around a laptop to discuss a case.

Positions

There are 15 positions available in the Internal Medicine Residency each year on a competitive basis.

How to apply

You must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). This can be done through your medical school dean's office.

The application form and all supporting documentation must be submitted by Dec. 15 of the year preceding the appointment date. The academic year begins in June.

  1. To apply to the program, visit the ERAS website. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials.
  2. Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates should register through the NRMP website. Candidates who are eligible for admission outside the NRMP also are given consideration.
  3. Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited to visit Mayo Clinic for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted between October and January each year.
  4. While our program does preferentially review applications from those who have signaled, we also consider applicants who do not signal us and have matched multiple applicants each year who had not signaled.
