Application Process

Positions

Three funded positions are available on a competitive basis each year in the Physician Scientist Research Fellowship program at Mayo Clinic's campus in Rochester, Minnesota.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Physician Scientist Research Fellowship program, you must have a doctoral degree with a strong interest in research. 

You must be accepted into or currently enrolled in one of Mayo Clinic's laboratory medicine or pathology clinical training programs.

How to apply

Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education does not process printed applications for this program. You must apply through Recruit, a third-party application service. A matching program service is used for our program. 

Mayo Clinic's academic year begins in July. You must submit a completed application form and all required documentation. Applications are reviewed and candidate interviews will occur on a rolling basis for multiple academic years. For incoming residents, refer to the residency program application timeline. 

Complete the following steps to apply:

  1. Create an account to begin the online Application for Admission
  2. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials.
  3. After submission, view the required Supplemental Items and Documents.
    • Upload each required item in the Supplemental Items section (if applicable)
    • Complete the Recommendation Request section (if applicable)

In addition to the standard application materials required by Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education, this program requires the following for applicants who are not currently enrolled in one of Mayo Clinic's laboratory medicine or pathology clinical training programs (for example, those applying to one of Mayo Clinic's laboratory medicine or pathology clinical training programs):

  • Two letters of recommendation from mentors, supervisors, or directors familiar with your research background addressing your candidacy for the PSRF. This must be completed in the Recommendation Request section. The recommender will receive an email with a link to upload a letter.
  • A one-page personal statement indicating why you are interested in this program.

Only complete applications will be considered. Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty.
