WHIM Track: Women’s Health in Internal Medicine
Where gender equity meets cutting-edge clinical training
Welcome to the WHIM track
For applicants who are passionate about women's health, gender disparities, and patient-centered innovative care — Women’s Health in Internal Medicine (WHIM) is your launchpad. Designed to integrate advanced training, scholarly development, and career mentorship, WHIM transforms residents into confident clinicians and leaders in gender-informed medicine.
The Women's Health Track is a senior-level track beginning PGY2 academic year, with early engagement starting during the PGY1 intern year. Interactive didactics include gender-focused grand rounds and journal clubs. The curriculum explores sex and gender differences in chronic disease. The longitudinal training includes areas such as breast health, gynecology/urogynecology, menopause and sexual health, dermatology, cardio-metabolic health, endocrine, and pelvic floor therapy. Participants will also gain hands-on procedural experience with IUDs, Nexplanon, and endometrial biopsies.
The program offers an academic and career boost through faculty-mentored research and quality improvement projects. Participants are supported in presenting at national conferences, including The Menopause Society (TMS), The International Society for the Study of Women's Sexual Health (ISSWSH), and Society of General Internal Medicine (SGIM). Additionally, there is support available for Menopause Society Certification. The incredible faculty who serve as resident mentors in this track are featured in the faculty section of the Women’s Health Fellowship website at Mayo Clinic in Florida.
WHIM track participants will be well positioned to pursue various paths, including academic general internal medicine, women’s health fellowships, gender-specific primary care, subspecialty training with a women's health focus, and leadership roles in public health and health equity.
