Positions
The Department of Internal Medicine at Mayo Clinic's campus in Jacksonville, Florida offers 24 categorical Internal Medicine residency positions on a competitive basis each year.
There are additionally 24 preliminary medicine positions each year, all of which are filled through our associated categorical programs in anesthesiology, dermatology, diagnostic radiology, neurology, physical medicine and rehabilitation, and radiation-oncology.
Application signals
- Due to the volume of applications received, we preferentially review applications from applicants who signal our program.
- Our program aligns with the Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine recommendations regarding signaling practices.
How to apply
- Candidates must apply through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS). Please visit the ERAS website. All applications to Mayo Clinic School of Graduate Medical Education programs must include these application materials.
- Appointments are made through the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP). Candidates must register through the NRMP website in addition to applying through ERAS.
- Our program encourages applicants to submit a total of three letters of recommendation (LOR). When possible, one of these letters should be in an Internal Medicine Structured Evaluative Letter (SEL) from the medical school, previously known as a "Chair letter." We realize this may not be possible or available in all cases.
Application review
- Applications are reviewed holistically including the Medical School Performance Evaluation (MSPE), United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) scores, personal statement, letters of recommendation, and other accomplishments as detailed in the ERAS application.
- Available results of the USMLE Step 2 CK exam are required to be considered for an interview.
Interviews
- Applicants selected for interview will be notified by Thalamus invitation. Applicants are able to review available dates and self-schedule in Thalamus.
- Interviews are scheduled between Nov. 1 and Jan. 31 each year. Generally, all interview invitations are offered by Nov. 1 each year.
- Interviews are conducted virtually and are scheduled as half-day sessions.
- Our program aligns with the AAIM Recommendations for Internal Medicine Residency Recruitment to ensure an equitable process for all applicants.
Post-Interview
- Two optional campus visit dates are offered in February each year. Attendance will not impact an applicant's position on the residency’s rank order list. Our residency submits and certifies our rank order list in NRMP prior to the optional campus visit. For the 2026 match cycle, our program is participating in the NRMP Voluntary Program Rank Order List Lock Pilot.
- In compliance with the NRMP match code of conduct for programs, our residency generally limits post-interview communication to answering clarifying questions you may have about the program. We are also not able to arrange personal tours or individual in-person meetings with program leadership.
