Application Process

Positions

One position is available on a competitive basis each year in the Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Fellowship at Mayo Clinic's campus in Phoenix/Scottsdale, Arizona.

Qualifications

To be eligible for the Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery Fellowship, you must have successfully completed or intend to complete a colorectal surgery residency program accredited by the ACGME.

International medical graduates who completed their general surgery residency outside the U.S. or Canada are eligible to apply for our accredited fellowship with The Fellowship Council. International applicants who have not completed a general surgery residency program accredited by the ACGME and are not certified by or eligible for certification by the American Board of Surgery may apply.

International fellowship applicants must have equivalent training and have passed the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) examination.

How to apply

This is an off-cycle fellowship beginning on August 1.

The application form and all supporting documentation must be submitted by Nov. 1 of each year.

You must apply through the Fellowship Council portal.

  1. Visit the Fellowship Council website and create an account to apply. The application requires the following information:
    • Official medical school transcripts
    • Official test transcripts for all applicable examinations (USMLE, COMLEX Step 1, 2, 3 exams)
    • A program director's letter and at least three other letters of recommendation
    • A curriculum vitae
    • A personal statement
    • A valid ECFMG certificate (if you graduated from a medical school outside of the U.S.)
    • A copy of your medical school diploma (if you have graduated from medical school)
    • U.S. visas: Non-U.S. Citizens eligible for/with planned J-1 Visa during their fellowship or Non-U.S. Citizens eligible for/with planned H-1B Visa during their fellowship
  2. Appointments are made through the Fellowship Council.
  3. Applicants considered for an appointment will be invited to visit Mayo Clinic for a personal interview with the program director and selected faculty. Interviews are conducted between November and December of each year.
